First Day in India!

I  first have to tell about the airplane ride! It wasn't very eventful whatsoever... Our first plane ride was a connecting flight for Salt Lake City to Chicago. In Chicago we spent about 2 hours waiting to go to Germany. I bought a sandwich from Cafe Zoot and there was a Starbucks so ya know I HAD to get something! Well anyways we headed to Germany on a 8 hour flight and I was stuck right in the middle on the middle part of the seats. The seats went 3~3~3 and I was the second seat on the middle section.
Here is a picture of a meal that we had!
You had a choice between vegetarian and not vegetarian  I got the not vegetarian  because it was pasta and I LOVE pasta. It was nothing like the way my momma cooks lasagna... We made it to Germany after 8 grulling hours. I was completely expecting Germany to be such an amzing airport, you'd think so right?! But when we got there it gave you feeling that it was deserted because there were no people and it was the biggest airport I've ever been in! However it was very modern.
The airport signs were in German as well as English! The airport was also very humid. A good start for India, right?! So we spent 5 hours doing absolutely nothing because there was nothing TO DO... We finally were able to board the plane for our 9 1/2 hour flight... Did I even mention how COLLDDD the plane was? I cannot describe how chilly I was I had 4 blankets and that wasn't even enough! However near the end of our flight to India they turned off the AC which really helped!
Here is a photo of India just before we landed!

The process in which we had to go through just to get in India was enormous! This was surely a time I wanted my mom and dad to help me... We first had to feel out these sheets about the trip and passport and turn them in when we got to the next counter. Here they were stamping our passports, they took the passports and the paper we filled out about our passports. At first they were being a pain then it got figured out. So we for our passports stamped then went on our to pick up our luggage. Boy was I nervous my luggage wasn't gonna make it, becuase I mean the likelihood of it making was slim to none..however WAHOOO we all got our luggage safe and sound!

The itinerary for our trip was to go and stay in a hotel that night then be up by 10:00 to go to Rising Star Outreach. But when we walked outside some people were waiting for us to take us straight to Risng Star however this wasn't the plan but we did it anyways. I was pretty sad because I wanted to sleep in a comfy bed just one last time and I had to pee SO BAD! So we went in the car for 2 MORE hours then finally got to Risng star and went to bed at like 4:00 in the morning and had to get up at 7:00 to start the day! So today out of the three (construction, medical, or education) rotations I was on construction and we went over to the sight in which they are building a hostel for older girls. They had just gotten a big truck full of bricks and unloaded to put on the roof. So we carried the bricks to a more convenient spot. Gee was it HOT! It was not hard ,but with the sun, boy it made it exhausting.

Afterwards we returned to the elephant house( where I am staying)  to shower!
I thought it was gonna be tricky to work but it wasn't at all! You just fill up the bucket and use the water as you need. Here is the bathroom!
The squating toilet!

And here this is where I get my clothes from

Then here is where we do our morning meetings at 8 am.
Then this is my room!!!

After a tour and orientation we played with kids!

  1. Hi Mackenzie! I was so happy to see your pictures and hear about your first day at the Elephant House. My favorite photo was the one of the girl playing with your hair - how unusual that must have seemed for her :-) My favorite story was hearing how you figured out getting through immigration and that all your luggage arrived safely. Woo Hoo! I am quite interested to know how your first full day of work there was. I am sure you must have been pretty tired after so little sleep. I'm certain that today (Tuesday now for you) will be much better. I will hope you have time to post
