Happiest colony

To start of my day we had our regular conclave at 8:00. Afterwards I hung out for a little bit while I waited to leave to the colony for the medical rotation!! We walked to the busses and headed out. Our journey to the colony had to have been about an hour or longer. That hour of my life was probably the scariest one yet! As we were turning on to the main road our driver decided to drive against traffic so that he could turn on to the road towards the colony.  We were littleraly driving against the traffic the wrong way, haha! Then once we were in the middle of the road our driver tried to find an opening to drive across the road but that is just not possible in India. We eventually made our way across the street, alive!
When we made it to the colony we had the warmest, kindest, most happy welcome from today's colony. Even though it is the smallest colony with only seven people living there that does not stop them from living their days to the fullest! Jayaraj is a very special patient , he is the happiest man I have seen here in India. He had Avery great accomplishment with not having an alysers today and that was truly amazing in itself! He makes you truly inspired! With only about one toe on his foot, he will completely just forget about the fact he has leprorsy and dance. This is where the name dance master comes into play... While we were at the colony today he was showing us some of his moves after he got taken care of!  As we were dancing to the music he would be smiling and saying " come come". The smile on Jayaraj face did not go away the entire time I was there. Jayaraj is a very happy person and it shows you how little you need to have to be happy.

While we were at the leprorsy colony I had the joy of being water manager. What I did was fill up two buckets with water, then in one of them I put anti -septic. Then everytime the person who was washing the the patients feet was done I would go to the ditch and dump out the water. Next I would swish around the clean water within the bowl and dump that out. Finally I would use the antiseptic, by swishing it around the bowl then dumping it out. Then I would walk back and return the bowl so the other person could use the bowl.

When we were all done and packed up , we walked back to the bus and the battery had actually stopped working!! So a couple of the local indian boys, Mathew  ( my chaperone), Michael ( coordinator), Seth ( volunteer) all helped push the bus to try and get it to go. After pushing the bus back and forth they got it started!! We were all so happy. The group all piled in and amberlee and my  plan was for Amberlee and I to sit in the back for A.C. but some beat us to it. Oh well! We were off on journey to the Hindu Temple and hopefully the junction for henna! However we got a call saying that we could not go to the Hindu temple for it was to risky since the bus broke down so we just headed straight back. As for the Junction that was always questionable and Michael said we just didn't have time and the bus was to risky.

Now I just have the rest of the day basically just play time and dinner! It's also Friday which means that tommorow is the weekend and we go out into town. We are going to the beach tommorow!

I hadn't put up a picture of what the plugs look like so I thought it would be cool to show.
I thought this was really fun toilet paper!

  2. Great photos and writing - I think you are discovering some talents on this journey. We had a similar, crazy bus driver when we were in Dominican Republic. I was feeling your fear!!! I can't wait to see you photos of the beach area. Love you so much :-)
